Ashlynne Laynee and The Progeny Series

Hello my darling ones. Do I have a wonderful author on today for you.
Being grilled in with an interview is none other than Ashlynne Laynne, author of the Progeny Series.
So without further ado, lets get on with it!

First off, I’d like to thank Penny for interviewing me today. I’ve always been an admirer of the tortured souls we call vampires.
*blushes* aww thank you for that Ashlynne, I love having new meat ahmm I mean new authors on here *wink*

Can you tell us a little bit about your background?
I’m Ashlynne Laynne, and I’m the author of the Progeny series. I’ve been writing for a little over two years and live in the States with my husband and teenage son.
When did you start writing erotica? What about this genre interested you the most?
I don’t think I fully committed myself to writing erotica until midway through writing Blood Bonds. When I wrote book one, I was beginning my craft and was unsure about how I wanted to write sex scenes. A dear friend, who just happened to be an erotica writer herself, read The Progeny and told me that she felt me holding back in the love scenes. I took this observation to heart and decided to go full-on erotic. I’ve never regretted it.

How long did it take you to get published? How many books have you written thus far?
The idea for The Progeny came to me in October of 2010, but I didn’t actually start writing it until May of 2011. It was accepted for publishing in October of 2011, and the first edition went live February of 2012.

Do you write full time?
I hope to some day, but for now I work a day job and write part-time.

Do you plot or free write?
I start every project with a rough chapter outline of what I think should happen. It just helps me to have a start and stopping point in mind. Ascher and Shauna are quite uncooperative characters and often derail me. I’m finding that the deeper that I go into this series, the less control I, as the writer, seem to have over this series.

What kind of research do you do before and during a new book?
I research any subject or place that I’m not familiar with, for instance I heavily researched the Salem Witch Trials and mouse gestation for book one.

How much of yourself and the people you know manifest into your characters?
Though I inject a small part of myself into most of my characters, Shauna is the most like me in temperament, beliefs and demeanor.

When someone reads one of your books for the first time, what do you hope they gain, feel or experience?
I believe in writing hard love and harder sex. I want my reader to experience the full gamut of emotions. For me, writing erotic means making sure that the emotions of the characters come through. It isn’t just about fucking for this couple, they are eternally in love and I want the reader to feel this, even when they’re ripping at one another’s clothing.

Does the title of a book you’re writing come to you as you’re writing it, or does it come before you even begin the first sentence?
I’ve named all of the books to come in this series, because I have a rough idea of what should happen in each one. I even know what the last line of the final book will be.

How would you describe your sense of humor? Who and what makes you laugh?
Much like Ascher, I’m not a humorous person, but my husband is quite the kidder. I think this is why we mesh so well together. He is the yin to my yang.

What are you working on now?
I’m currently writing book four of the Progeny Series, book one of my upcoming Rocker series and an untitled YA project that is in its beginning stages.

What was the best piece of advice you've received with respect to the art of writing? How did you implement it into your work?
A good buddy of mine once told me, “The story always come first. Always protect your story.” This to me means that I own my story, and it’s my job to make sure that I do what’s best for my characters. I never assume that anything regarding my books is done, unless I do it myself.

Where did you get the idea for the stories you write?
This series started as a dream after a grueling day at work. I dreamed of Ascher and the amulet that he and his brothers wear around their necks. I awoke and immediately began sketching the ancient bauble. That sketch was hideous, by the way, and no one has seen it besides my husband and cover artist.

When it comes to the covers of your books, do you get much say in how it will appear, design, location etc?
My publisher is cool in that way. We are free to go with someone within their group to do our covers, or we can commission our own artist. I wanted my covers to be unique and to convey a certain tone and attitude, and I got that with my artist. I don’t need to worry about anyone else popping up with my cover, because they are one-of-a-kind.

Aside from writing, what else do you enjoy doing?
I really enjoy cooking different types of food, though my schedule doesn’t permit me to do this often. My guilty pleasure is watching Lifetime television I my pajamas.

Any special projects coming out soon we should watch for?
The third in my Progeny series—Blood Promise—is set to release this month.

New writers are always trying to glean advice from those with more experience. What suggestions do you have for new writers?
The biggest advice I can give is to write every day, even if you don’t feel like it. Also, get an editor outside of yourself and friends to help smooth out the rough edges. As writers, we tend to be too close to our characters, and we need unbiased sets of eyes to point out the rough spots.

Can you please tell us where we can find you on the Internet?

Excerpt from book three, Blood Promise

Cuff me...is she for real? Of course she means it, you idiot. What did you think the handcuffs were for? Now anxious with anticipation, he obeyed her command, allowing her to restrain his wrists in the cool metal. Stepping backward and keeping his gaze riveted on his brutally hot wife, Ascher fell back into the sofa, naked and with bound hands that rested at the small of his back.
Straddling his lap, her hips circled against his hardness, pushing his restraint to the bitter edge. Her kiss was different, her tongue deeply probing and her lips crushing against his, brash to the point that they bruised the flesh, causing a dull ache that radiated to every cell in his body.
“The venom, baby, please be careful.” Overcome with lust and approaching the brink of his sanity, he was still lucid enough to remind her about the poison in his blood. He was grateful that the venom only bonded with vampire black cells; otherwise, he’d never allow her to go down on him. The pleasure wasn’t worth the risk of turning her.
She nodded as though she understood, kneeling in front of him. “I was going to blindfold you but decided against it. I want you to see what I’m going to do. You’ve been a very bad boy.” Tilting forward, her ruby lips formed an “o” as she blew a teasing stream of breath against his rod, initiating contact and taunting him until his fevered body pained with the need for any form of her. With a stiff tongue, she lapped a slick circuit along the veins coursing his pulsing length and around the delicate skin of his cockhead.
A wave of desire swept him, submerging his human nature, awakening the primitive beast within. A throaty growl emerged from the depths of his belly as her mouth slipped up and down his thickened shaft. Her full lips drew in his swollen crown, gently pulling on the tender tissue. His eyes rolled as her tongue tunneled into the sensitive slit, leaving behind her crimson lipstick kiss as she extracted a thick bead of pre-cum.
The telltale tingles in his hands preceded the claws springing from his fingertips, as the lengthened points of his fangs bit at his bottom lip. A combination of wet warmth, hard suction and expertly timed motion lashed at him, bringing his release painfully close to the cusp.
She seemed just as turned on as he was. Her moans reverberated through his dick, while her eyes fixed on his unmoving gaze. Steadily fisting him with her right hand, Shauna’s left hand masturbated her clit as her head bobbed up and down—working him hard, milking him with a gentle strength that echoed her familiarity with his cock and what made it explode.
Blood pounded in his head and swirled in his vision until he was lightheaded and panting for more, begging for mercy. His hips pushed upward, meeting each thrust of her mouth with one of his own. Pleasure ebbed and crested as everything inside him coiled and tightened with tension, his vision blurring blind with fang pulsing, blood boiling insanity. “Yes—yes—fuck me with your mouth, baby...make me come.”
Ascher’s throat rumbled with animalistic growling that mimicked the most primitive of mating sounds. A hot mix of heat, bloodlust and unbridled strength welled inside him. The flexing of his hands slackened the bite of the silver manacles, until the sound of twisting metal pierced through Shauna’s mouth-filled moans.
He was free, but remained glued to the couch as climax weighted his yearning body. Heated waves travelled through him, bringing the pleasure and prompting the pain of a release brought on so violently...so quickly. “Oh, God.” A moan resonated from within. “Suck me harder, faster...Oh, Shauna—baby, I’m going to...”

Blood Promise (The Progeny Series #3)

“Their love is fated by an ancient prophecy. Now the promise is fulfilled.”

Ascher Rousseau is a half-human, half vampire whose life has been a series of prophecies and predictions. After finding incredible love and passion with Shauna—a Wiccan with powers beyond anything he’s ever known—he seals to her and hopes for happiness. But his enemies seek to destroy all that he loves, and he finds that happiness never lasts for long.

Darkness is descending and a vampiric revolution is nearing. A new brood of hatchlings is born to join their darkling brothers, in preparation for war. A preordained chain of events is set into motion that could lead to the rise of the demonic “cloaked one” and his half-human fallen children, while ending humanity—as we know it.

Can a supernatural love and the loyal bond of a family save the Rousseaus and the world from certain extinction?

About Ashlynne Laynne

Ashlynne Laynne has always had a soft spot in her heart for vampires but grew tired of the garlic fearing, sun-loathing creatures of old. An avid horror movie fan, she tends to enjoy media and music that is of a younger, more eclectic nature. This was the catalyst for her writing The Progeny. The vampire/witch pairing is unique and different when most books pair vampires with werewolves.

Ashlynne loves writing on the edge and teetering between the erotica and romance genres, and thinks of Ascher and Shauna as the wicked, damned version of Romeo and Juliet. She is currently working on book four of her Progeny Series, book one of her upcoming Rocker Series, and an untitled novella WIP. In her spare time, she enjoys cooking, reading and spending time with her family. She juggles the hats of wife, mother, full time employee and part-time writer, hoping to write full time one day soon. Find and follow here online on Twitter. Check out her Manic Readers page, Blog and Website, or leave her a note in her Reader Email.

Ashlynne lives in North Carolina with her husband and teenage son.

About The Progeny Series

At its core, The Progeny Series is simply about a man and woman who fall in love, and the fact that he’s a half-blood (half-human, half vampire) and she’s a Wiccan human are secondary factors. When we meet Ascher, he’s grumpy. Frankly, who could blame him? He’s engaged to seal to Ursula—a cold and careless vampire who wants nothing more than to get her hands on a bloodstone— and he feels conflicted about his existence.

All of that changes when he meets Shawnette McCutchin. She’s beautiful, intriguing and possesses some of the most potent blood that he’s ever smelled. A war immediately begins inside Ascher. He craves Shauna’s blood just as much as he craves her body and the closer they get, the harder it is for him to control his urges. After Ascher calls off the sealing to Ursula, the trouble begins. His family’s peaceful period ends when Ursula’s army attacks the Rousseaus.

This series encompasses a family dynamic of which we’ve never seen. The Rousseaus share a common mortal and immortal bloodline, but loyalty is the thread binding this clan. Shauna and Ascher’s dissuaded love only strengthens the family bonds. Their unique union transcends bloodlines and completes the prophecy, defying the archaic beliefs of centuries old covenants while shattering the wall between the Wiccan and vampire worlds that has existed for ages. This series is erotic paranormal romance intended for adults, as it contains adult sensuality, language and themes.
